I've never taken a position in the evolution-versus-creation argument. It's not that it's an unfathomable paradox, merely altogether unimportant. I don't think it would make one whit of difference in my daily life if I knew, as an absolute certainty, whether the entire species evolved from protoplasm or was sneezed whole from whatever deity you're collecting for this week. But then, it's generally the strength of someone's opinions, or perhaps their wish to be admired for them, rather than anyone elses desire to hear them that leads to expression.

But I think I've found a cure, at least temporary, for the unpleasant effects of the disease called "other people": this photo. I'm keeping a copy in my wallet for the next time that argument comes up - at which point, I'll whip it out and watch them abandon the argument altogether, or perhaps blame the other side. It'll come in handy for other topics, too: you think abortion is a heinous sin - check this out. You think euthanasia should be banned - scope this. You've got a problem with flag burning - have I got a snap for you. Granted, the photo has nothing at all to do with patriotism or freedom of expression ...

... but they'll probably shut up all the same.
